Narrative Writing Publishing - Alynthia

Our task for the past two weeks was to write our own narrative writing. Narrative writing is just writing that is characterised by a main character in a setting who engages with a problem or event in a significant way. My writing is just about a princess called Akira who wishes to be a knight but cannot because she is a woman.

 Alynthia

(Set in medieval times)

Alynthia was a contented and joyful kingdom, filled with lots of lovely people.  The kingdom of Alynthia has snowy white brick walls and a cyan tiled roof.

Alynthia was known for its ravishing and remarkable crops that were apparently the finest in the land. Akira was a princess in the Alynthia kingdom, she had short fawn brown hair and emerald green eyes, Akira always assumed that's what her mother looked like because everyone always said to her “You look just like your mother!”. Akira always wished to be normal so that she could be a knight and wield a lustrous sword, but that wasn’t possible because of others' expectations. “Akira get down here now!” Merissa shrieked.

“I’m on my way Merissa, just be patient.” Akira shouted.

“Don’t tell me to be patient, I was already waiting five minutes for you!” Merissa bellowed. Akira slipped into her silky adorned gown, and made her way down the castle stairs. “This is your last chance Akira!” Merissa yelled.

“I’m already down here if you couldn’t see.” Akira sassed as she lifted her gown and wandered towards Merissa.

“It’s about time Akira, you need some time outside, you can’t stay in that musty  room forever” Merissa declared.

“Okay then, I guess” Akira muttered as she walked towards the garden.

The emerald green grass twirled in the wind. A shiny flicker of light flashed in the sun as Akira strolled through the garden admiring the scenery. “What's that?” Akira noticed a cyan sword laying in the flower patch. Akira picked up the sword as it glistened through the sunlight, “Is this a dream?” she mumbled under her breath.

“I see you’ve found my sword” A stranger mentioned.

“Ah!” Akira flung the sword towards the stranger in fear it tumbled and tumbled and tumbled until it finally hit the grass floor. “Who are you and how did you get in the castle walls?”

“I’m Aiden, I just climbed over the walls using a vine, it looked like an interesting place to explore” Aiden babbled. Aiden had chestnut brown fluffy hair and a cape wrapped around his torso flowing down to his detailed boots.

“You can’t just climb over castle walls, that's dangerous and you could get in serious trouble!” exclaimed Akira.

Aiden and Akira strolled around talking about how lovely the castle was and about each other. “Wait so you’re a princess?” Gawked Aiden.

“Yeah..” Sighed Akira.

“Well if you want to learn how to be a knight I could teach you as I am a knight”

Akira's eyes sparkled “yes, yes!” Akira cheered.

Aiden took Akira to a meadow clearing in the castle gardens. Akira and Aiden battled for what felt like hours, as the sun slowly faded away. “Akira what in the world are you doing!” Merissa yelled “Is that a sword Akira! You’re a woman let alone a princess, you cannot wield a sword.” Merissa glared at the stranger.

“Yes I can, what am I doing now Merissa!” Snapped Akira.

Merissa’s eyes went dark, flooded with darkness as she yelled for the guards. Guards slowly hurried towards Aiden, as they grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards the castle dungeon with force. “Aiden!” Akira yelled, bursting into tears.

“Come on Akira, let's head back to your chambers now” Merissa smiled as they slowly made their way towards Akira’s chambers. The only things that Akira was left with when Aiden was taken was his knowledge of sword fighting and his sword. “I can’t just leave him to be locked up forever” Akira thought to herself letting thoughts slowly get to her. Akira pounced off of her bed, grabbing Aiden’s sword and darting towards the dungeon.Akira didn’t notice how terrible it was in the dungeon, the roof had cobwebs, the floor was covered in moss and the walls were dripping water. ”What's the princess doing in here” Guard one muttered.

“It doesn’t matter we don’t get paid enough for this job anyway” Guard two sighed. All the cells were empty, this was the last cell was he in this cell?...

“Aiden!” Akira yelled. “I’ll be back. I just need to get a key.” Golden keys were hanging on a hook near the guards, “Now how do I get those” muttered Akira. Akira pulled out Aidens trusty sword and ran towards the keys. “Sir I’d like you to hand over the keys,” Akira threatened. “Or else I’m gonna have to take them from you” The guards went silent staring at Akira with wide eyes. “Okay miss here just take them!” Guard two threw the keys at her. Akira sprinted back towards the cell that Aiden was held captive in and shoved the key in the lock rushing to open the cell before more guards were alerted. It took minutes the old rusty cell door wouldn’t give in, until it finally did. “Thank you Akira” Aiden smiled as they ran for the dungeon exit, fighting all the guards that came in their way. “Hurry, let's escape to the forest. I know a little cottage that’s nearby” Aiden yelled.

Aiden tugged on the vine to make sure it was strong enough before they climbed up it luckily it was. Akira and Aiden clambered up the vines to see an escape into the real world. Akira didn’t feel like a bird trapped in a cage anymore, instead she had finally flown free. Akira’s eyes filled with surprise. There were mountains, valleys, meadows and even trees all around the castle. Akira's dress got stuck on the white brick wall and she had to tear her dress a bit to get it unstuck. Finally she was free and could become a knight.
